Grantham out, Tucker in!

Eric Wright and Mel Tucker at OTAsThe Browns Defensive coordinator Todd Grantham was let go earlier this week by the Browns organization.  He had been there three seasons and when the Browns offense was lacking, Grantham’s defense would step up to the plate. That was not the case this year…The Browns defense was considered the worst in the league at times but what leveled it out was an offense that could score a lot of points.

With all of that being said, Mel Tucker will take over as new defensive coordinator.  Before accepting the job he was the Browns’ defensive backs coach.  He was Ohio State’s co-defensive coordinator in 2004, and prior to that he coached three previous years with the Buckeyes and also at LSU and Miami-Ohio.

He is a young guy with a lot of fire and a lot of potential.  Just like the Browns went after the offense in the off-season, look for the Browns organization to go after the other side of the ball this year.

Tucker received a two-year extension on his current contract and is under contract with the Browns through the 2010 season.
